Langa music and Kalbelia dance from Rajasthan on 29 March, 6.30pm @ Bharat Bhavan.
Accompanied by Kalbelia dance , Langa music Thar desert is here to awe and enthrall.
The Langa musicians and poets of the desert have the majesty of their environment as the very meaning of the word Rajasthan in Sanskrit suggests “the land of princes”.
Langa music has geographically originated from the Jodhpur area which is between the Thar Desert and the Deccan plateau. They play sarangi, “the instrument of many colors” and their songs express the thousand facets of the world of sand evoking simultaneously the scenes from rustic Rajasthan: the beauty of women going to draw water, camel caravans, the majestic palaces…
Walli Kha, Sikndar Khan, Sardar Khan, are representatives of the much admired Langa community, guardians of tradition and Vijay Lakshami Ameta, the wonderful Kalbelia dancer described as a miracle performer, are here to charm us.
Entry is free.
