1.30 pm – Walkthrough with French photographers and researchers
Join us for a Walkthrough of the Photography Exhibition with Bénédicte Florin and Pascal
Garret and Rémi de Bercegol. They will take us across Kochi, Paris, Cairo, Delhi and other
urban centers where they have been documenting the modalities of waste collection,
waste workers and recovery practices.

2 pm – Student Posters Contest “Don’t be Dumb, Don’t Dump it”
8 Groups of Students from Chavara Cultural Centre (tourism batch, Kochi), Jai Bharath
College of Management and Engineering Technology, (Perumbavoor), KMEA Engineering
College (Pookkattupadi), Rajagiri Engineering College (Kakkanad), LBS Engineering
College (Kasargode), will share their views on the waste management in Kochi. They will
defend their ideas for preserving the environment through a presentation of visual
posters highlighting the need to be smart with waste: “don’t be dumb, don’t dump it!”

4.15 pm – tea break and snacks
4.30 pm – Practice, Knowledge and Culture “Bin it India”
An illuminating talk on Practice, Knowledge and Culture by ‘‘Bin It India’’
5 pm – Best poster Award ceremony and “Waste in the Smart City”

5.30 pm – Movies projection “Ilsand Of Flowers”, 1989, Brazil (12 minutes).
A short film directed by Jorge Furtado (1989) which describes the ironic, heartbreaking
and acid “saga” of a spoiled tomato.

Waste Innovations Fair, exhibition and Workshop
Saturday 17 February 2018, Chavara cultural centre

1.00 pm – 6.30 pm

(Free & Open to all)
1.30 pm – Walkthrough the waste innovations fair with their contributors
Participants of the innovation will present to the public the very diverse possibilities of
being smart with waste. Different technologies prototypes, as well as re-used and recycle
materials, tools and proposal posters will be exhibited at Chavara to present the different
projects to be discussed during the afternoon
1.45 pm – Opening of the waste innovation day
Introductory talk by François Grosjean and Rémi de Bercegol
2 pm – presentation of Waste Innovations Initiatives
During 10 minutes of presentation and 5 minutes of discussion the jury members,
contributors will explain their experience and their contribution to a smart waste
management in the city.

Decentralised Technologies;
Prof.(Dr.)Nisam Rahman A (Professor at Jai Bharat College of Management & Engineering
Technology, and Kerala State Awardee for Energy Conservation also an innovator) will
present different prototypes for decentralized household waste management
Mr Raveendran executive director CCCM , Abad Builder « CREDAI Clean City Movement »
will present some innovative decentralized technologies for managing waste in

Socio-technical innovations
A Kudumbashree representative will come to present their social integrative model for

Planet@Earth will present their initiatives for work leading towards a waste-free future

Social Work and Education

Bin It India is an organisation that aims to educate Indian school children and local
communities on the importance, benefits and methods of creating a clean, litter-free

of ITC Limited started in 2007 under Corporate Social Responsibility with an objective to
Protect Environment Conserve Natural

The Way Forward:
Alif Shahul, engineer,inventor, will present “Smart Bin” concept, a proposal that he
wants to develop with his two colleagues
Hedi Reghioui, Nadia and Rajesh George (architect) will present their “Ecohome
Network” concept
