Alliance Française de Trivandrum in association with Fondation Alliance Française is presenting a Worl-wide Photo Contest. This competition invites photographs illustrating the theme “Occupations of the World”.
Participation in the competition is free. The contest is for amateur photographers.
The Photo Contest begins on November 1, 2012 and ends on January 10, 2013.
RULES AND REGULATION
Photo Contest:” Occupations of the World”
ARTICLE 1 – ORGANIZATION AND COMPETITION DATES
Foundation Alliance française, Public Foundation with statutory fund of 35.6 million Euros, registered in the directory SIREN under the ID number SIRET 500 110 788 0001 4 and whose registered office is 101, boulevard Raspail 75006 PARIS, organizes international photo competition.
Each participant Alliance française will send to the Foundation, 2 photographs of a winner previously selected by their respective jury.
The two photographs will then be assessed by a jury in Paris. The winner will be invited to Paris for a week (travel and accommodation expenses of the Foundation Alliance French), and can have a solo exhibition in the French capital.
There are rules and regulations laid out for this contest.
ARTICLE 2: CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST
Participation in the competition is free. This competition invites photographs illustrating the theme “Occupations of the World”. The aim is to show the men and women in the extraordinary diversity of occupations across the world, depicting the beauty and the hardness of their day-to-day existence.
This contest is an opportunity to discover unique occupations related to traditions and take a look at their evolution.
This contest is open to all adults under the law of their respective country of origin. Participation in the competition implies full acceptance of this rules and regulations in their entirety. Failure to comply with these conditions will void participation.
ARTICLE 3: REGISTRATION AND CONDUCT OF COMPETITIONS
The contest is divided into three steps:
Local: The first stage of the competition is that each Alliance française should be held between 27 September 2012 and 20 January 2013. The participant Alliance française
will make an initial selection of photographs and establish its own jury for this occasion.
Each Alliance française will then send the name of the winner and two selected works to the Fondation Alliance française .
World: This step is supported by the Fondation Alliance française which will select 40 works through its jury for a group exhibition that will be welcomed by the Alliance française around the world.
Final selection: the final winner will be chosen by the jury of the Fondation Alliance française .

Except in cases of force majeure, the results will be communicated by email to participant Alliance française and will be published on the site www.fondation-alliancefr.org
after February 20, 2013.
ARTICLE 4 – PARTICIPANTS
The competition is open to any person hereafter named “the participant.” He should not be a professional photographer known for making his living from photography.
Only two photos per entrant will be taken into account.
Participants should guarantee that the proposed works are original, unpublished (Prohibition to reproduce an existing work) and they are only holders of all rights attached to these works. As such, participants are responsible for authorization of any third party, who has directly or indirectly contributed to the development and / or consider having any right to argue against and assume the responsibility of all potential payments there under.
Participants yield to the French Alliance Foundation exclusive rights operating on the works submitted to the site during the Contest Period.
In general, participants guarantee the Fondation Alliance française :
This contest against any claims, actions or claims that may form in any capacity, any third party in connection with the exercise of the rights granted to these and more generally in respect of all guarantees and commitments under this agreement.
Fondation Alliance française reserves the right to make any verification for the purposes of this section.
With the content of the photograph, here are some tips to follow that are not exhaustive:
– Have the consent of those photographed;
– Ensure that the reproduction of buildings (historic or recent) may qualify in making copyright;
– Do not reproduce public equipments which may be affected by the rights of third parties;
– Do not show branded objects (clothing, furniture, objects);
– Any representation of brand of alcohol or tobacco or situation that presents consumption is prohibited.
IMPORTANT: Do avoid archetypal pictures, though today’s occupations, whether in industry, transport, agriculture, hospitality, finance, arts and crafts ,will also be deliberated.
Any entry or participation made with incomplete, false or counterfeit information or contact or in violation of this Rule and Regulation will be considered invalid by the Fondation Alliance française
The Fondation does not take any responsibility for the exclusion of participants on the grounds of misrepresentation.
ARTICLE 5 – DESIGNATION OF WINNERS (winner and finalists) AND
AWARD OF GAIN
The jury appointed by the Fondation Alliance française, composed of professionals photographers and culture, designate one (1) winner “1st Price “and 19 (nineteen) finalists among the artists whom Alliance française have submitted pictures on the theme “Occupations of the World”.
Foundation organizer guarantees the participant impartiality, good faith, and loyalty of the members of the jury.
In accordance with custom, the jury may remove any image if it considers that it is not artistically appropriate. The jury is organized as is understood in the context of its sovereign work rule, any appeal against its decisions cannot be accepted.
The decisions of the jury will be established primarily on the following criteria:
– The consistency of approach
– The relevance about the contest
– Picture quality: framing, originality, light treatment, aesthetic…
– Respect for the specified number of file photos (two)
– Compliance with technical specifications mentioned below
All shortlisted entries are then sent to the jury of Fondation Alliance française.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
Each participant must submit two photographs, in a file preferably TIFF or JPEG with a resolution minimum 30 x 40 cm at 300 DPI or in pixels is 3543 x 4724 pixels.
The following information should also be attached to two photographs each participant:
– Reference of the camera used
– The aperture
– The speed
– In use of a photographic film: the film references (brand, number of ISO)
Note: Physical modification or manipulation of image is not allowed; your photograph should faithfully represent the scene as you saw it.
The “winner” and the “finalists” expressly authorize the Fondation Alliance française, without payment for reproduction and dissemination of the contents of their photos for the exhibition, to promote and advertise their works on any broadcast medium now known or unknown to this day in the whole worldand for a period of 24 months from 21 February 2013.
The “winner” and the “finalists” allow the Fondation Alliance française, in charge, to take pictures and record audio and / or visual recordings of their participation in the exhibition, and the multi broadcast live and / or delayed in completeness and / or extracts, any broadcast medium known or unknown to this day,worldwide and for a period of 24 months from the date of the announcement of the results.
TERM
The Photo Contest begins on November 1, 2012 and ends on January 10, 2013.
HOW TO ENTER
Each entry consists of an entry form and images. To enter, complete an entry form with the required information: including your name, age, address,profession, telephone number, email address, and photo caption; and submit along with your photographs to[email protected].
Photographs must be in digital format. Only online entries will be eligible.
ARTICLE 6 – Prize
A selection of works of the finalists and winner of “1st Prize “chosen by the jury of Fondation Alliance française, will be exhibited in a collective manner at a Parisian space chosen by the Fondation Alliance française and the gallery of the Fondation Alliance française at the 2013 International Conference of the Alliance française.
The “1st Prize ” winner will have a solo exhibition in a Parisian gallery. The chosen photos will be selected and published in the press specialized in arts and photography. The ticket (roundtrip economy class), accommodation (FIAP or equivalent housing arrangement) for a week in Paris and an allowance of 30 € / day are provided by the Fondation Alliance française for the winner.
Not included in the prizes:
– Fees and any additional services related to avail the benefit of the prize will remain the responsibility of the winners.
– Personal expenses (eg traveling in France).
The “winner” and the “finalists” will not receive any remuneration for their participation in this contest organized by the Fondation Alliance française outside the prizes mentioned above.
Endowments are neither transferable nor exchangeable.
The organizer reserves the right to replace prize announced with equivalent endowments.
The “winner” and the “finalists” will be notified by email and / or phone by the concerned Alliance françaises
If we are unable to communicate the results in case of insufficient information given by the participant, he cannot make any claim.
The prize cannot give rise to any dispute of any sort, or delivery of prize in value in money or in any form whatsoever, nor its replacement or exchange for any reason whatsoever.
In the case where the “winner” and / or “runner” would be unable to benefit, in whole or in part, for their gain, for any reason whatsoever, they lose the benefit, without any possibility of obtaining compensation.
The contest organizers will take care of the print of the photos selected and to hang them at the exhibition space. The choice of format of prints, mode of framing and hanging, and general scenography of the gallery will be decided by the team of the Fondation Alliance française .
ARTICLE 7 – PUBLICATION OF RESULTS
The identity of the “winner” and “finalists” contest will be published in the form of pseudonym (artist name) in which participants were enrolled and optionally, their true identity can eventually be communicated through the sites and other communication channels of the Fondation Alliance française and participating Alliance françaises.
ARTICLE 8 – LIABILITY AND FORCE MAJEURE
It is expressly stated that the Internet is not a secure network. Fondation Alliance française disclaims any responsibility in case of malfunction of the Internet, notably due to external malicious acts, which prevent proper operation of the contest.
In addition, this liability shall in no case be used in case of dispatch problems or lost post or mail. All misrepresentation or deceptive fraud results in disqualification of the user.
In case of force majeure or if the circumstances so require, the Fondation Alliance française reserves the right to amend this Regulation, postpone or cancel the contest. Responsibility cannot be held because of these changes.
ARTICLE 9 – RULES
Participating in this competition implies full acceptance of this Regulation in its entirety including, as and when their intervention, any amendments and additives. All the practical difficulties of interpretation or application of this Regulation shall be decided by the principal organizer.

Written local rules developed under the responsibility of each Alliance française will follow the terms of the rules established by the Fondation Alliance française, adapting it to the possible local judicial constraints.
ARTICLE 10 – DATA PROTECTION
In accordance with the Data Protection Act of 6 January 1978 amended by Law

ARTICLE 11 – DISPUTES
This contest is subject to French law for the contests in France.
Each Alliance française is responsible for its own rules written and inspired by this Regulation.
