Autumn 1917. Far off, war is raging. Miles away from the fighting zones, Camille, a young woman, leads a life marked out by the news that her husband sends from the warfront. But one day she receives a note ending their relationship. Distraught and determined to stop at nothing, she decides to disguise herself as a man in order to go and find him. She heads for the front, cutting across fields to avoid the gendarmes. In a forest she comes across a small group of soldiers who do not suspect her true identity.
She follows them, embarking on a new life and, as the days and nights pass, discovers what she could never have imagined…
