BLACK PULP: Contemporary dance by Companie Xin, AFTrivandrum
BLACK PULP: Contemporary dance by Companie Xin, as part of festival dance dialogue, on 13 April, 6.30pm at University Senate Hall.
India and France have great traditions of dance. In India, the traditional dance forms are highly developed and very well established. The French contemporary dance scene is known for its diversity and quality. Wishing to highlight the artistic trends from the two countries, the Embassy of France in India, Institut francais en Inde and the Alliances francaises in India have introduced Festival Danse Dialogues. “DanSe DialogueS” is thus conceptualized to initiate and encourage a discourse between the art forms of India and France.
On music composed by Martin Harriague, Black Pulp combines solos, and duos in an instinctive, abstract but meaningful dance, that is sensual and exciting.
The work draws inspiration from American “Pulp magazines” and can be read like a “futuristic erotic fiction to the original score written by Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovsky on acid!
On a music composed and recorded by the choreographer himself, Black Pulp, presents a dark and explosive modern Grand pas de deux.
Martin harriague has collaborated with Derrick Brown, an American beat poet, that wrote the words spoken throughout the piece.
‘At some point in the vanishing history of a couple, their home fades from a place of shelter to a museum of what once was …’
