Alliance Française de Trivandrum will be organizing the May session of Café Scientifique on 19 May, 6.00pm @ Alliance Française de Trivandrum. The focus of the fifth edition is Food Safety.
The Café Scientifique is a discussion platform to bring common man nearer to science and scientific issues. The objective is to bring issues related to food safety into focus. The presentations will be followed by Q and A, to help an open discussion on ‘food safety’ where concerns of common man can be raised.
The speakers are:
Dr. C. Sureshkumar, General Secretary, Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA). He will talk about the pesticide content in our food and vegetables and its impact on our health.
Dr. C.A. Jayaprakash, Principal Scientist, Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (ICAR). Green revolution has paved the way for miracles in agricultural scenario and was necessary for achieving food security. But the intensive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides to increase the production has, in turn invited countless adversaries to men and environment. Dr. C.A. Jayaprakash will talk about the role of eco-friendly pesticides in pest management strategy.
Mr. Sridhar Radhakrishnan, Programme Director, Thanal. He will give a presentation on real food safety that addresses the way one produces food, naturally, organically and without the use of toxic chemical inputs and genetically modified crops (GMOs).
