The Café Scientifique is a discussion platform to bring common man nearer to science. In the first edition the focus will be on the plastics. The idea is to explore various angles related to plastics. It is an interactive session .The presentations will be followed by Q and A, to help an open discussion on plastics where concerns of common man can be raised.
The key note speakers are:
Dr. Jayabalan, Scientist G and Head Polymer Division, BMT wing, SCTIMST, Trivandrum, on what plastics are – the various types – give examples from our daily lives, how they are made – whether they are degradable and touch briefly on biodegradable materials as an alternative to plastics.
Saji Sebastian, Urban Sanination project planner, will discuss the various systems for plastic disposal employed in various municipalities in Kerala.
Dr. Retheesh, Asst. Prof, Dept of Community Medicine, Medical College, Trivandrum, will focus on house hold waste management particularly plastic waste and hazardous waste and their health implications,and to impart awareness among the audience regarding proper solid waste management.
Joy Balakrishnan, a resource person for Solid waste management. He will talk about ways to convert waste plastic to petrol, a system which he has developed.
The Café Scientifique will be organized once every two months at Alliance Française de Trivandrum. Each session will discuss a new topic related to scientific questions affecting common man.
