Alliance Française de Trivandrum in association with Pallium India is organizing Desert Rose: an exhibition of creations by patients of Pallium India from 26- 30 April at Art Gallery, Alliance Française de Trivandrum.

Pallium India is a registered charitable trust which envisions an India in which every needy person has affordable access to pain relief and palliative care. Its mission is to catalyze the development of effective pain relief and quality palliative care services across India through delivery of services, education, research advocacy and information. Trivandrum Institute of Palliative Sciences (TIPS), which is an organ of Pallium India, is a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre (WHOCC) for Training and Policy on Access to Pain Relief.

Apart from treating pain and other symptoms and offering psychological support, Pallium India also embarks on some degree of rehabilitation services. In addition to physical and psychological rehabilitation, Pallium India, ventures into vocational rehabilitation of the families. Pallium India offers support to children of patients for education till they have earning capacity. In addition, wherever possible, Pallium India empowers patients and family members to earn for the family, by teaching them some vocation. Many also rediscover their artistic talents.

The exhibition “Desert Rose” is intended to showcase the artistic skills of the patients of Pallium India and thus highlight their indomitable spirit. The exhibition is a way forward for these people where the focus is on their artistic and other creations.  It is an attempt to bring them back into the mainstream after the trauma they have undergone. Mr Sameer, a patient of Pallium India who is paralyzed from the waist down, will inaugurate the exhibition at 11 am on 26 April 2014. The inauguration will be followed by a talk and documentary screening on palliative care.
