Duality contrasts the work of Austin Konchira and Mahinth to bring a powerful visual treat. The idea is to illustrate that though view points, imagery, treatment and subjects change, the awe and power of painting remain the same. Works of Austin are a venture the explore the development of Humans through mechanization. The works have an emphasis on machines and the imagery is developed based on that. Mahinth’s painting as a contrast tries to capture the interplay of abstraction and realism.
Born in 1950 at Trivandrum, Austin has had an active involvement in art from as early as 1980. Austin has participated in several group shows and done over 20 solos, notable among them are recent shows in Jehangir Gallery, Mumbai and others in Delhi, Calcutta and Holland. Austin has solos coming up at Durban Hall, Kochi and Shridharani Gallery, New Delhi.
Majinth’s paintings attempt to capture the patterns that repeat in nature and use them as design. For this series his technique shows the inherent movement of subjects in a minimalist way. This concept plays into viewers imagination and allows great freedom. Mahinth often blurs the images to capture this sensation. An additional idea is to make focus points non existent and provide equality across the canvas.
Mahinth was born in Trivandrum and under guidance from various Masters (including Austin Konchira) and Art Schools was trained one a classic style and later developed an appreciation for the more progressive work of contemporary painters.
