flamenco invitationDUO FLAMENCO : From classical music to flamenco on 30 January, 6.30pm at Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan.

Serge Lopez and Nathalie Marin met during a concert with the Symphony Orchestra of Cannes. They both played different music– flamenco and classical music respectively – and decided to bring the styles together. The colors and the very particular sound of the flamenco guitar bring out rich tones in the sensual music of Debussy, Ravel or Massenet, all fascinated by Spain and Andalusia. Serge Lopez also performs compositions from his own repertoire, inspired from jazz and flamenco.

Serge LOPEZ: Born in Casablanca (Morocco) Serge Lopez grew up in Toulouse (Southern France) and lived in Andalusia for several years. The crossing of his origins have inspired him and brought to his work shades and perfumes from the Mediterranean. From this cultural melting pot, he has developed tolerance and open‐mindedness, which we can hear in his music where several universes are mixed to become one.

Nathalie MARIN: Artistic director and permanent conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador from 2011 to 2013, Nathalie Marin is as the same time developing her international career. In 2014, she conducted the Kosovo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Thueringen Symphony Orchestra in Germany, the Mendoza Philharmonic Orchestra in Argentina. She also conducted Carré by Stockhausen at the Cité de la Musique in Paris with the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra.

On the program:
Sous les nuages, Paseo en Cadix, Sur, Nomada, Barrio Latino , La Familia, Apallosa, Quisiera, compositions by Serge Lopez and Gymnopédie by Erik Satie, Pavane by Faure, Danse profane danse sacrée , ballade by Debussy, Habanera by Maurice Ravel…
Serge Lopez and Nathalie interpret this program mainly with symphonic orchestras but they also play it in duo piano guitar, in Tirana (Albania), Quito (Ecuador), la Habana (Cuba) and in France.
