Look around us and we see many familiar forms: the computer, the cell phone, the wrist watch. Some of these have been around for generations; so may go back thousands of years, to the dawn of civilization- imagine something like wheels. Yet others constantly change dimensions, while retaining a continuity of basic form- think of houses and buildings.
If you lived and died a hundred years ago, and were to miraculously come back to life now, which forms would be familiar to you? Which would be totally unfamiliar? You may still recognize the train, but would you be familiar with today’s motor cars? Do they look anything like the ones which plied the roads hundred years ago? Would today’s jumbo jetliners be familiar to you? Would you ever be able to tell what a cell phone is used for? Will you not be scared of the drones humming overhead in wedding halls?
A hundred years from now, even fifty years from now, what new forms await our everyday experience? Which ones would survive our life time? What new forms will emerge during our lifetime? This show ‘Imagined Forms’ is an attempt at exploring this question.
