Rick-Show

Cinema on wheels by Le Gentil Garçon

Witness mobile cinema on a rickshaw that fits within a box. Explore five thematic shows from renowned art film collections offered to the general public and art lovers.

When the Rick-Show unfolds, the world of cinema pops up. Why Rick-Show? Because it brings cinema to people on an everyday object – an auto-rickshaw. This artwork creates moments of conviviality after the long months of pandemics without cinema.

This project was developed in partnership with the Department of Design of the College of Architecture Trivandrum (CAT). A team of professors and students were responsible for the design and production of the artwork under the guidance of the artist who intervened on a distance mode from France.

Within the heart of the project, there is the desire to showcase contemporary art films to communities that have little access to artworks in India (remote regions, underprivileged communities, etc.). There is also the idea of reaching out to a wider audience in the public space through a permanent – but mobile – artwork capable of touching the heart of Indians both through its medium and its contents.

Five thematic programs from art films collection from the Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain Occitanie Montpellier (France) and Fonds Municipal d’Art Contemporain de Genève (Switzerland) will be offered to the general public and art lovers in Trivandrum and Kochi in March 2022. The screening includes films by famous independent artists like Miranda Pennell (UK), Ben Russell (USA), Ingrid Wildi Merino (Chili), Georges Schwizgebel (Suisse), Le Gentil Garçon (France) and many more.

In Kerala, Rick-Show is proudly supported by Bharat Bhavan, Government of Kerala and Kochi Municipal Corporation.

Rick-Show is part of the fourth edition of Bonjour India 2022 Festival.  Bonjour India is put together by the French cooperation network in India mainly comprising of the Embassy of France and its cultural service, the French Institute in India, the Alliance Française network and, the Consulates of France in collaboration with Indian Council for Cultural Relations, with support from various public and private partners.
