Alliance Française de Trivandrum in association with the Embassy of France in India presents The Red Wall Project’ an Art Exhibition By Transgender Community.

This art show is the first of its kind in India from the transgender community. The show is conceptualized by transgender activist, artist, Harvard speaker and writer Kalki Subramaniam with her research team transgender artists Sowndharya Gopi, Kanchana Venkatesan and Smita AviMukta. Kalki promotes and encourages artistic expressions among the transgender community for livelihood, gender expression, as a way of protest and for self-healing.

This show features the acrylic artwork portrait of an aggressive and angry young transgender woman painted by Kalki Subramaniam in the middle surrounded by hand written testimonials of sexual exploitations (with red palm impressions) from more than 250 transgender victims. Beyond just art, it is bound to speak the deep experiences of the transgender people’s lives which include the stories of our own #Metoo experiences in our everyday lives. The testimonials are from transgender people all over India.

Transgender persons from West Bengal, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Pondicherry and other states of North of India participated and wrote their testimonials by hand. The project aims to bring to front the discussion and dialogue on exploitations of transgender bodies and voice out for justice and fight against the injustice through artistic expressions.
