Francophonie Film Festival

@ Alliance Française de Trivandrum

As a part of Francophonie Month, dedicated to celebrate the French language which unites 220 million people throughout the world, Alliance Francaise de Trivandrum organizes Francophonie Film Festival  on 20, 21, 22 March, 5.30pm @ Alliance Francaise de Trivandrum. 

Keeping to the spirit of Francophonie, the film festival will have a selection of films from Francophone countries: Cambodia, Chad and Belgium.

20 March

La terre des âmes errantes/ The Land of the Wandering Souls

Rithy Panh/ Cambodia/ 2000/ 100 min

The film follows a Cambodian family as they work to dig a trench across Cambodia to lay the country’s first optical fiber cable, depicting their hardships.

At one point during their excavation, the workers uncover a killing field, a remnant of the genocidal purges of the Khmer Rouge.

Un homme qui crie/ A Screaming Man

Mahamat-Saleh Haroun/ Chad/ 2010/ 92 min

It revolves around the civil war in Chad, and tells the story of a man who sends his son to war in order to regain his position at an upscale hotel. Themes of fatherhood and the culture of war are explored.

Simon Konianski 

Micha Wald/ Belgium/ 2009/ 100 min

Simon Konianski, 35, has returned to live temporarily with his father. They make life unbearable for each other. To add spice to this situation, Uncle Maurice and Aunt Mala, Ernest’s brother and sister, meddle in everything and, notably, try to find a “nice little Jewish girl” for Simon to marry.
