Threatened Species: Threatened Spaces

Led by French artist Anaïs Beaulieu (@anais_beaulieu ), this Indo-French collaboration is supported by the Institut Français, French Institute in India and the network of Alliances Françaises in India will travel across 4 cities- Trivandrum, Delhi, Pune and Jaipur between August and October 2023.

The objective is simple: Use art to respond to the imminent environmental crisis that surround us. On ground it would engage with local communities who embody specific concerns and ideas of threat – who are themselves under threat, or who are working to mitigate threats, natural or otherwise. Communities that, by the very nature of their work, have become agents of change, by choice or not.

In this week-long immersive initiative, Anaïs will live within the communities, observe their work, and co-create with them works of art, specifically embroidery on plastic waste, collected with them, in cities, in water-bodies or in dump-yards. They will together stitch patterns and imprints of threatened species and spaces, in an attempt to understand through their art the implications and ideas of disappearance and change.

The project will happen in Trivandrum from 12th to 19th August in collaboration with Coastal Students Cultural Forum (CSCF).
